Description:

This elegantly shaped box has been painted by the famous Fedoskino artist Yegeniy Solodilov. It shows the girl dressed in the Russian traditional costume who looks at her reflection in the mirror, and asks if she is the most beautiful girl in the world.
The scene is painted in brown, red, and white tones of oils over silver powder that helps to strengthen the oils, and to accentuate richness of the girl's sarafan. A shining piece of mother-of-pearl is set into the window to create the depth of the composition. Gold paint is used to detail the girl's sarafan. Gold dust is sprinkled in the area of the composition where the sarafan is depicted. The scene is extended on the box's sides where the artist continues to paint the interior of the room where the girl is sitting.
On the box's black lacquered exterior bottom the artist has written his name, the title (“ … if I am the most beautiful girl in the world…”), Fedoskino, and the year of 2007, all in gold. The interior is traditionally covered with red lacquer.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. It has a hinge from the left of the scene and rests on a flat bottom.
