Viktor Tretyakov is the talented Fedoskino artist who painted this dynamic scene. Rich peasants riding in the sledge pulled by a troika of mighty and beautiful steeds have come alongside of a poor peasant whose sledge is pulled by an old horse. Having a good chance to show off, the rich peasants ride in troika at full speed.
The scene is painted in the realistic style using various shades of blue and white oils suitable for reproduction of a dull winter day. The edged of the lid are decorated with a thin gold line. Two parallel gold lines can be found wrapping around the box's sides.
The box is constructed out of paper-mache. Black lacquer is used to paint the exterior of the box while red lacquer completes the interior of the work. The lid is hinged from the top of the scene, and the box rests on a flat bottom. The work is signed with the artist's name.
