Description:

Alexey Puchkov, the son of the outstanding Fedoskino painter, Piotr Puchkov, is a creator of this magnificent box. Like his father Alexey specializes in painting architecture; in the lacquer miniature world he is known as one of the best contemporary painters of this complicated genre.
The box shows a picturesque view of the Moscow Kremlin in the evening. In the foreground the artist has painted the red bricked Kremlin's wall with its towers that stretches along the highway and the embankment of the Moskva River. Within the territory of the Moscow Kremlin encompassed with the wall the artist has painted the Archangel Cathedral, the Annunciation Cathedral, and the Terem Palace. In the background he has drawn the Temple of Christ the Savior while in the far background we can see one of Stalin's skyscrapers.
The scene is painted in dark tones of oils to reproduce an atmosphere of a Moscow evening. Gold paint is used to create illumination that comes from street lamps and windows of the depicted buildings. Gold is also used to paint the domes of the cathedrals. The illumination of the cathedrals and the reflection of the Temple of Christ the Savior in the Moskva River have been achieved with the help of mother-of-pearl inlays. Silver powder highlights the roofs of the towers, and creates the illuminated area in the foreground, behind the bushes.
The scene is framed with a nice gold pattern. Two parallel gold lines wrap around the box's sides.
The box is constructed out of paper-mache. Black lacquer covers the exterior and red lacquer covers the interior of the box. The lid is hinged from the top of the scene, and the box rests on a flat bottom. The work is signed with the artist's name, the title (“Moscow. The View of Kremlin in the Evening”), Fedoskino and the year of 2007.
