Description: This is one more box from Rinat Yunusov's series of works dedicated to the Moscow Kremlin. Here he has painted a picturesque view of the Pokrovsky Cathedral (better known as the St. Basil's Cathedral) and the Spasskaya Tower.
In front of the Pokrovsky Cathedral you can see the Lobnoe Mesto (place of execution). It served as a rostrum for annunciation of important events such as government communique and solemn ceremonies. Sometimes it was used for executions. The Lobnoe Mesto got its modern shape in 1786 when it was rebuilt by architect M. Kazakov. The Lobnoe Mesto looks like a round stone eminence edged with a parapet and stairs.
The box's exterior imitates the coloring of a stone (gold blurry spots and veins are scattered against the green backgroundd) while the interior is traditionally red.
The box is made out of paper-mache. The lid is hinged from the top of the scene, and the box rests on four legs. Signed with the artist's name, Moscow, the title ("The View of the Pokrovsky Cathedral and and the Spasskaya Tower"), and the year of 2007.
