Description: This small attractive box has been painted by Alla Kozlova. Alla Kozlova has long been a favorite of collectors, and been featured in several books on lacquer art. The delicate colors and mother-of-pearl inlay are characteristic of Kozlova's art.
The box shows a maiden and a lad feeding birds in the winter forest. The entire scene is painted on the mother-of-pearl shell that is set into a paper-mache frame. The presence of this mother-of-pearl allows for a tremendous amount light to penetrate the painting. Silver dust highlights some areas of the scene.
The scene is framed with a gold line; gold line can be also found wrapping around the bottom part of the box's sides. The box's exterior is covered with light green lacquer, and the interior is traditionally covered with red lacquer.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. A hinge is fastened to the top of the scene, and the box rests on a flat bottom. The work is signed with the artist's name, the village of Fedoskino and the year of 2007.
