This beautiful winter scene has been painted by one of the top Fedoskino artists, Alexander Mikheev. The trees in the monastery park are covered with white snow; the nature waits for the beginning of spring.
The work reflects the artist's admiration for a quiet splendor of Russian nature. It is brilliantly painted in white and light blue oils, and has a calming effect on the soul.
The edges of the lid are decorated with a nice pattern that resembles snow covered branches of a tree; this pattern is painted in a shinning silver powder. The same pattern but a little larger in size can be found wrapping around the box's sides.
The box is made out of paper-mache. Black lacquer covers the exterior and red lacquer covers the interior of the box. The lid is hinged from the top of the scene and the box sits flat. The Fedoskino "troika" insignia can be found on the interior of the lid.
