The sumptuous style of top Fedoskino artist Maria Wagner shines in this delightful work. Most of all she likes to depict the scenes from village life. Here she has painted the merry wedding game arranged just on the street of old Moscow. The wedding guests and the relatives of the newly married try to draw off the bridegroom from the bride whom he hugs toughly.
The scene is beautifully painted in Wagner's unmistakable mixture of fairy tale style realism and rich colors. Aluminum paint has been used as an underlayer for the oils to make the colors brighter and to fill the scene with a magic sparkle.
The box's exterior is covered with black lacquer, while the interior is traditionally red. The box's sides are decorated with gold blurry spots to imitate a stone color.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. The lid is hinged, and the box rests on four legs. The work is signed with the artist's name, and the village of Fedoskino.
