This alluring piece of genuine Russian artistry was composed by the talented Oleg Yastrebov from the village of Fedoskino. Yastrebov has a peculiar painting style notable for aesthetic beauty, and creative approach to a chosen theme.
The box shows various characters from Lewis Carroll's tales "Alice in Wonderland", and "Through the Looking Glass". On the box's lid the artist has painted Alice who admires a pink rose. On the front side we can see the White Knight falling down from his horse. The left side shows the Hatter holding a watch in his hands while the right side depicts one of the Queen's gardeners who looks like a little boy holding an umbrella. On the box's rear side we can see Humpty Dumpty reading a book.
The work is beautifully painted in Yastrebov's signature style. The brown and cream tones of oils predominate here. Silver paint shines brightly through the oils creating brilliance of the characters' costumes. Shimmering green spangles are scattered throughout each the depicted scene decorating the box's exterior. The box's black lacquered exterior is also decorated with gold blurry spots and veins to imitate the coloring of a stone. The interior is traditionally red.
The box is constructed from quality paper-mache. The lid is hinged, and the box rests on a flat bottom. The work is signed with the artist's name, and the year of 2007.
