Yevgeniy Solodilov of Fedoskino painted this magnificent work.In the center of the box we can see Thumbelina sitting on the green meadow, and a little below Solodilov has drawn Mr. Mole who proposes marriage to Thumbelina. The painting extends on the whole surface of the box's exterior, except its exterior bottom.
The box is of semicircular shape, and decorated with three-dimensional elements. Several pieces of mother-of-pearl help to create a three-dimensional look of the leaves that adorn the box's exterior. Big pearl beads are glued to the leaves to imitate drops of early dew. A small snail attached to the box's exterior is also crafted three-dimensionally. To paint this work Solodilov had used various tones of green oils mixed with gold and silver powders. Gold paint is also used to detail and highlight some of the plants and leaves.
The box's exterior bottom is traditionally covered with black lacquer, and red lacquer completes the interior of the work.
The box is made out of paper-mache. The lid is hinged, and the box rests on a flat bottom. The work is signed with the artist's name, Fedoskino, the year of 2007, and the title ("Thumbelina") on the box's exterior bottom.
