Description: This beautiful portrait of the boyarynya caressing her steed has been created by the talented Fedoskino artist L. Olisova. The boyarynya is dressed in the warm rich fur coat and the fur hat because the action takes place in winter. To accentuate richness of the fur coat Olisova has drawn it in brown oils over gold metal leaf inlay. Then she covered this area with clear lacquer, and painted whimsical gold patterns over it to show richness of the material the fur coat is made out of. The pendants that decorate the boyarynya's kerchief and the steed's harness are adorned with the bulging pearl, gold and silver beads of various size that help to give the scene a three-dimensional look. Various shades of brown oils are used to paint the boyarynya and her horse while the surrounding landscape is drawn in light blue and white tones suitable for reproduction of a winter setting. Gold and silver paint is used to create a sparkle of the faded leaves on the trees, and detail the architecture of the small church drawn in the background.
The scene is framed with tiny silver beads. The box's exterior is of beautiful light blue tone, and covered with very thin silver veins to imitate a stone color. The interior is traditionally covered with red lacquer.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. A hinge has been fastened to the left of the scene, and the box rests on the flat bottom. Olisova has written her name, the title ("Boyarynya"), and Fedoskino at the bottom of the scene.
