This portrait of a young beautiful woman has been created by M. Nazarova. The woman belongs to the Russian upper class of the 19th century. She is painted with utmost reality. Her skin is a soft white with rouge cheeks, and puffy pink lips. Her clear blue eyes are very expressive. The minute details found in her hair are painted so intricately that it is a wonder a human hand can make such small strokes with a brush.
The portrait is framed with a thin gold line. Two parallel gold lines wrap around the box's sides.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. Black lacquer is used to paint the exterior of the box while red lacquer completes the interior of the work. The lid is hinged from the left of the portrait, and the box rests on a flat bottom. The work is signed with the artist's name and the village of Fedoskino.
