Description: This fascinating piece of Russian lacquer artistry was created by Fedoskino master Vladimir Rogatov. The artist dives deep into the waters of originality in composing a superior miniature in rich detail. Rogatov's work is nothing short of superior. His creations frequent many publications exploring the subject of Russian lacquer miniatures.
The work is called "Interrogation of a Peasant". Here we can see an officer of the Russian pre-revolutionary Tsarist police interrogating a peasant who is suspected in communication with communists. The box's exterior is decorated with tartan patterns drawn in gold and light grey paint.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. Black lacquer is used to paint the exterior of the box while red lacquer completes the interior of the work. The lid is hinged from the left of the scene, and the box rests on four legs. The work is signed with the artist's name, Fedoskino and the title.
