Description:

This majestic view of the St.-Basil's Cathedral and the Moscow Kremlin in winter was created by the talented Victor Tretyakov of Fedoskino. Tretyakov is a very accomplished painter, and his works are featured in many books on lacquer miniature art.
The palette Tretyakov uses is very realistic, which makes the composition very convincing. The lines in the buildings are rigid, accurate, and follow the correct proportions all the way through. When the artist's brush leaves the buildings we see smooth flowing lines that depict the snow, the clouds, and the texture of the snow capped trees.
The scene is framed with a thin gold line. Two parallel gold lines wrap around the box's sides.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. Black lacquer is used to paint the exterior of the box while red lacquer completes the interior of the work. The lid is hinged from the left of the scene, and the box rests on a flat bottom. The work is signed with the artist's name.
