Olga Kachalkina, from the village of Fedoskino is the talented artist responsible for this delightful piece. The box is of semicircular shape that suits perfectly for reproduction of a forest landscape. The basket filled with forest mushrooms is left on the meadow by an absent-minded mushrooomer. The hedgehog has noticed the basket, and wants to taste fresh, ripen mushrooms.
The basket, some of the plants and the leaves falling on the ground are drawn in brilliant gold metal paint. Silver paint is used to paint the hedgehog. The rest part of the composition is drawn in subdued oils. Lustre of metal paints is strengthened by the black lacquered background. The bottom part of the box's exterior is decorated with a bright gold band.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. Black lacquer is used to paint the exterior of the box while red lacquer completes the interior of the work. The lid is hinged, and the box rests on a flat bottom. The work is signed with the artist's name, the title (“A Successful Finding”) and the year of 2008.
