Title: Magic Flying Carpet
Artist: Frolova Tatiana
Size: 17.5x14x4
Size (inches): 6.75x5.5x1.5
Price : $695 SOLD!

Talented Artist Fedoskino Frolova Tatiana has painted this splendid box.
It features an episode from the fairy-tale "Ivan Tsarevich and the Firebird". Here we can see Ivan Tsarevich and Princess Elena flying on the magic carpet. Ivan Tsarevich holds the golden cage with the Firebird in it. He has successfully fulfilled all the tsar's errands, and now he is on his way to the native Kingdom.
The black background has been chosen by the artist to create an impression that the depicted action happens at night. Mother-of-pearl creates brilliance of the full moon, produces shimmering light that comes from the tail of Fire-bird, and shines through the Princess's costume. The magic carpet and the figures of Ivan Tsarevich and Princess Elena are painted in bright gold and silver paints, and detailed with oils. The exception is the faces of both characters entirely painted in oils. Silver paint is also used to paint the shinning stars and the lake that reflects the moon light. Brilliantly done!
The box's sides are painted with the scenes of small houses that our pair is passing on their flight. Houses are painted with silver paint.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. Black lacquer is used to paint the exterior of the box while red lacquer completes the interior of the work. The lid is hinged at the top, and the box rests on a flat bottom. The work is signed by the artist's name, Fedoskino and the date of 2008.
