Description: This interesting work has been painted by Mishin from the village of Fedoskino. It shows a recognizable moment from Lewis Carroll's classic tale "Alice in Wonderland". The Hat, the Hare and Alice are drinking tea, and the Cheshire Cat is smiling in the background. The original shape of the box gives the table a three-dimensional look (the edges of the table extend beyond the edges of the lid).Gold paint is used to create a luster of the table and the chairs, and also to detail the characters' costumes. Mother-of-pearl inlay decorates the costume of each character.
The box's decoration is superior. The scene painted on the lid is framed with a
gold line. The sides of the box's lid are covered with white lacquer while the
sides of the box's body and the box's exterior bottom are covered with light pink lacquer mixed with gold dust. Pieces of mother-of-pearl that shine with a
full spectrum of the rainbow are inlaid into a wide ribbon that wraps around the box' sides. This ribbon is outlined with gold. For additional decoration various suits of playing cards are painted on the box's sides in black and red oils. The interior of the box is traditionally covered with red lacquer.
The box is constructed out of paper-mache. The lid is hinged from the top of the scene, and the box rests on a flat bottom. The work is signed with the artist's initials, Fedoskino, the title and the year of 2008.
