Description:

This interesting box has been drawn by Valeriy Kovalyov. The entire surface of the box's exterior and interior are covered with enchanting miniature painting. The work is called "Awakening of the Vedrusses". 'Vedruss' is a term invented by the followers of the theory that the Russians are descendants of the ancient pagan tribe that came to the Russian land from India. 'Vedruss' is also a synonym to the word "pagan", a person who knows the secrets of nature, commits mysterious rituals, and lives in close unity with nature. The Vedas are a large corpus of sacred texts originating in Ancient India that is why 'vedruss' is also a person who possesses a special sacred knowledge.
The box's lid shows woman and children bathing in the forest lake at dawn. On the box's sides the artist continues to paint the fresh grassy meadow. The box's exterior bottom shows a beautiful pattern drawn in various shades of green oil paints. The lid's interior depicts the lad and the girl lying on the grassy meadow and admiring fragrant aroma of wild flowers. The box's interior bottom shows the children of vedrusses playing with the cubs of bears and squirrels. The edges of the lid's interior and the box's interior bottom are covered with green oil paint. It is a memorable art work that may adorn any collection.
The box is constructed from papier-mache. A hinge is fastened to the top of the scene painted on the lid, and the box rests on a flat bottom. The work is signed with the artist's name and the title.
