This picturesque view of the Moscow Kremlin's cathedrals in winter has been created by the famous Fedoskino painter Mikhail Tugarinov. Mikhail was born in 1965 in the town of Dmitrov. In 1971 he finished the Fedoskino Art School, where he studied under such well-known Fedoskino masters as Antonov and Chizhov. His painting style is influenced by the works of the prominent Fedoskino artist, Piotr Puchkov. Mikhail paints his composition mostly in cold tones, applying traditional painting methods. He cuts mother-of-pearl into a box by himself. This process is very difficult and not many painters can do it.
In the middle of the composition we can see the Archangel Cathedral and the Belfry of Ivan the Terrible while in the left part of the composition the Assumption Cathedral is depicted. Blue, white and grey tones of oils dominate here. Brilliant pieces of mother-of-pearl shine through the architecture of the Archangel Cathedral and the Belfry of Ivan the Terrible. Gold metal leaf inlay is used to create a sparkle of the cathedrals' domes.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. Black lacquer is used to paint the exterior of the box while red lacquer completes the interior of the work. The box's exterior is decorated with beautiful gold patterns. The lid is hinged from the top of the scene, and the box rests on a flat bottom. The work is signed with the artist's name, the year of 2008 and the village of Fedoskino.
