Description: Mikhail Papenov of Fedoskino is the talented artist responsible for this gorgeous winter landscape. The wooden architecture of ‘skit' (monastic-type community of Old Believers) surrounded with the snow covered thick forest looks so beautiful and enigmatic.
The architecture is executed with absolutely exquisite craftsmanship. Silver powder sparkles through the architecture of the skit, and also used to highlight the sky. A mother-of-pearl inlay is set into the area behind the skit. A computer screen is not able to fully convey the full extent of this box's beauty.
The scene is framed with two very thin parallel gold lines; a gold line wraps around the box's bottom part. The box's sides imitate a stone color (very thin black veins are scattered against the silver blue background). The box's exterior bottom is covered with black lacquer mixed with silver dust while the box's interior is traditionally covered with red lacquer.
The box is made out of paper-mache made. The box has a hinge from the top of the scene, and rests on four rounded gold metal legs. The work is signed with the artist's name, Fedoskino, the title (“The Solitary Skit”), and the year of 2008 on the box's exterior bottom.
