Description: Two peasants come back home from the Fair sitting in the cart pulled by three white, speeding steeds. One of them drinks vodka just from the bottle celebrating a successful sale. The theme of speeding troika is traditional for Russian lacquer miniature art. This tradition sprang from the very beginning of lacquer ware production in Russia when the first lacquer workshop was founded by Petr Korobov in the village of Danilkovo (now Fedoskino). At that time the themes of peasants' everyday life were very popular among painters.
The scene is painted in the realistic style using green and blue tones of oils. The edges of the lid are decorated with a gold line.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. Black lacquer is used to paint the exterior of the box while red lacquer completes the interior of the work. A hinge is fastened to the top of the scene, and the box rests on a flat bottom. The work is signed by the artist.
