This elegant box is a creation of the famous Fedoskino landscape painter, Sergey Kirsanov. In the middle of the box's lid the artist has painted a peaceful winter landscape. The entire scene is drawn over a large, rectangular piece of mother-of-pearl that shines with green, orange and pink undertones. Mother-of-pearl helps the artist to create a sparkle of the sunset, and its reflection on the icy river.
The scene is framed with a silver scan pattern composed of shapes hand punched from silver metal sheets and then painstakingly affixed by hand to the box. The box's lid and the sides imitate a stone color (very thin black veins are scattered against the grey background. The exterior of the box is covered with dark grey lacquer, while the interior is traditionally red.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. A hinge is fastened to the top of the scene, and the box rests on a flat bottom. The work is signed with the artist's name.
