Description:

Alexander Mutusov is the author of this stunning winter landscape. The work is called "town of sergiev Posad", and shows a picturesque view of the world famous center of Russian Orthidox center in winter time.
Light grey and white tones suitable for depiction of the chosen season predominate here. To create an almost invisible sparkle of the sky the artist has mixed silver powder with oils while painting this area. A large piece of mother-of-pearl is set into the architecture of the depicted cathedrals to give them a three-dimensional look. In this scene the artist has created great perspective and texture through color choice and by using the overlay method of application.
The box's exterior is painted in imitation of a stone (light grey veins are scattered against the light blue background). The box's sides are decorated with silver scan patterns. Skan are individual gold punchouts that are applied to the box during the drying process of the lacquer. The interior of the box is traditionally covered with red lacquer. The box is made out of paper-mache. The lid is hinged from the top of the scene, and the box rests on a flat bottom. The work is signed with the artist's name.
