This box is a creation of the prominent Fedoskino painter Marya Wagner. It is called "Amusement", and features a circus actor giving a performance to the young tsaritsa. A monkey is playing the balalaika, and the parrot is singing to the monkey's music.
For this scene the artist chose the rich, bright palette. Gold and aluminum paints were used as an underlayer for the oils to make the colors brighter and to fill the scene with a magic sparkle.
The box's exterior imitates a stone color: gold veins are scattered against the black lacquered background. The interior is covered with red lacquer.
The box is constructed out of paper-mache. The box has a hinge above the composition, and rests on a flat bottom. The work is signed with the artist's name and the village of Fedoskino.
