Nikolay Demyanenkov of Fedoskino is the expert craftsman responsible for this adorable, originally shaped box using Russian lacquer miniature artistry. The box shows a humorous scene: the dog has caught a thief in the garden. A young peasant sits on a tree with the bag full of stolen apples, and looks in horror at the watchdog that attacks him.
The scene is painted in dark tones as the action takes place at night. The dog is crafted three-dimensionally. The scene is framed with a simple gold ornament.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. The exterior imitates a stone color (copper-gold veins are scattered against the black lacquered surface) , and the interior is covered with dark red lacquer. The lid is hinged. The work is signed with the artist's name, and the year of 2002.
