The box shows a peaceful summer landscape with a fisherman catching fish under an old oak, and a deer pasturing on the sunny meadow together with its baby. A brilliant piece of mother-of-pearl is set into the middle part of the scene where the oak is painted. The details in the scene are classic Rogatov. The tree branches and tree trunks are prime indicators of his skill level.
The box is constructed out of paper-mache. Black lacquer covers the exterior and red lacquer covers the interior of the box. The box's sides are covered with an elegant pattern composed of golden scrolls. The box has a hinge above the scene, and rests on a flat bottom. The work is signed with the artist's name.
