Once again establishing her style as a true master of enchanted elegance, Yelena Aldoshkina of Fedoskino entices us with another exceptional creation. Here she depicts a girl dressed in the Russian traditional costume. She holds a basket filled with bright red, ripe ashberries. A passionate palette filled with greens, blues and powerful reds is enhanced by gold metal paint that shines beautifully through the oils. The overlay method of application increases the depth and texture. By painting one portion of the composition, applying a layer of clear lacquer over it and then painting additional portions of the scene on top of it, the goal is dramatically achieved. The composition glows. An elusive inlay of mother-of-pearl creates an angelic shine behind the girl. This inlay enhances the overlay method of application, mentioned earlier.
The box's sides are decorated with two shining, bright gold bands. One of them decorates the edges of the lid and another one wraps around the upper part of the box's sides.
The box is made out of paper-mache. Black lacquer mixed with gold dust covers the exterior and red lacquer covers the interior of the box. The lid is hinged from the left of the composition. The box sits flat. The work is signed with the name of the artist, Fedoskino, and the year of 2008.
