Maslov's artistic ability is easy to recognize because of its impressive details that invite the audience into the scene. This square piece is an excellent example of Maslov's diverse brushwork.
The box shows two young fellows floating on boat, playing a guitar and signing serenade to a beauty that look at them from a window of a castle. Dark blue and grey oils predominate here as the action takes place at night. With the presence of aluminum powder and gold paint that shine through the oils, the artist has managed to create a magic atmosphere.
As always, the work is full of magnificent details and we can find several pieces of mother-of-pearl that artist has used in a young Moon and leaves of the trees on this composition.
The exterior bottom of the box is decorated with brown oils mixed with aluminum powder.
The box is made out of paper-mache. The interior of the box is covered with red lacquer. The lid is hinged from the top of the scene and the box rests on four pearl beads glued to the box's exterior bottom. The work is signed with the artist's name, the title and the year of 2009. This information is written on the pearl plate glued to the box's exterior bottom.
