Description:

The artist who created this piece, Galina Dubovikova graduated from the Fedoskino Art School in 1956. She studied under A.A. Parfionov, A.I. Kuznetsov, and D.N. Didunik and was influenced by such well-known Russian artists as Tropinin, Bryullov, Borovikovskiy, Kiprenskiy, and Livitskiy. She is well known for her genre scenes and portraits, and miniatures by the painter reside in private collections abroad. The artist uses a wide spectrum of colors in her paintings, which is why all her works are expressive and at the same time realistic. On the average it takes her not less than 10 days to paint a composition.
Fedoskino is well known for producing fine oil portraiture, and this piece is a perfect example. In this piece, Dubovikova has used oil paints to create this adaptation of an early 19th century canvas and oil portrait entitled "Blessing of a Mother”. Dubovikova has managed to express here such complex human emotions as the warmth and wisdom of a mother, and the innocence of a daughter.
The outer edge of the lid is painted with a fine band of gold paint. The base of the box has two lines done in gold painted parallel to each other, the bottom line slightly thicker than the other.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. Black lacquer is used to paint the exterior of the box while red lacquer completes the interior of the work. The lid is hinged from the left of the portrait, and the box rests on four legs. The work is signed with the artist's name, and the title (“Blessing”).
