This beautiful small box is a creation of Valery Kovalyov from the village of Fedoskino. The work is entitled “Rus (Russia) has awakened”. On the box's lid, and on each of it's sides the artist has painted Russian peasants who enjoy riding in a sledge driven by horses.
The work is painted in blue, white and green oils that help to reproduce an atmosphere of a winter day. On the box's exterior bottom the artist has painted in oils a beautiful design that resembles a frost design on the glass. This design is repeated on the box's interior; it is painted in blue oils against the red lacquered background.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. The lid is hinged, and the box rests on four legs. The work is signed with the artist's name and the title.
