This beautiful piece of authentic Russian artistry was created by the talented Mikhail Papenov of Fedoskino. Here the artist depicts a quiet winter day in the Russian countryside. The scene is painted in light blue and white oils. Silver powder helps to reproduce a sparkle of the snow on the trees.
The box's exterior imitates a stone color (very thin blue veins are scattered against the silver background) while the interior is traditionally covered with red lacquer. On the lid's interior the artist has written his name, the title (“Winter Day”) and the year of 2008, all in gold paint. The box is constructed from paper-mache. The lid is hinged from the left of the scene, and the box rests on a flat bottom.
