Description:

This beautiful composition was painted by Fedoskino artist Konstantin Buyko. It shows the Church of John the Baptist situated in the town of Uglich.
The palette is very fresh and clear. It is based on skillfully matched blue, green and yellow tones. Some elements of the building including bells, crosses, windows and different decoration on the roofs are highlighted with gold paint. The detail of the architecture is worked out with the utmost precision and is painted to the correct proportions. Excellent perspective is achieved through remarkable sketching and the overlay method of application.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. Black lacquer covers the exterior and red lacquer covers the interior of the box. The Fedoskino "troika" insignia can be found on the interior of the lid. The composition is framed with the swirling gold pattern. The sides of the box are decorated with the exquisite design painted in gold and highlighted with blue oil paints. The box has a hinge above the composition and rests on a flat bottom. It is signed with the name of the artist, village, title and year.
