This enticing piece has been painted by Konstantin Danshin. Konstantin is fond of animals, especially cats. Quite often he depicts these graceful animals on his miniatures. The box's lid is richly decorated. In the middle of the lid the rectangular piece of mother-of-pearl is glued. On this shining pearl surface the artist has painted the cat sitting on the window of a peasant house. The scene is encompassed with a gold metal frame adorned with floral relief work.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. The exterior of the piece is painted with a creamy white lacquer while the interior is covered with a beige velvety material. The lid is hinged from the top of the composition and the box rests on four small, rounded gold metal legs. The work is signed with the artist's name and the village of Fedoskino.
