Sergey Kirsanov from the village of Fedoskino is an expert in painting landscapes and architechtural scenes. In his works he doesn't exaggerate the modest beauty of Russian countryside, and finds a special charm in ramshackle peasant houses, small wooden churches, and dirty village roads. This demonstrates his sincere love to his Motherland.
On this box the artist depicts the view of village street in Winter. The wooden houses covered with snow. Birds are sitting on electrical or radio wires.The smooke is coming out from the pipe of the stove of one of the houses...
White and gray tones suitable for reproduction of a dull winter evening predominate here. A large piece of mother-of-pearl is set into the whole area of the sky to create a pinkish glow of the sunset.
The scene is framed with so called "scan patterns" composed of tiny shapes hand punched from gold metal sheets and then painstakingly affixed by hand to the box.
The box is constructed out of paper-mache. Black lacquer covers the exterior and red lacquer covers the interior of the box. The box has a hinge from the top of the scene, and rests on a flat bottom. The box is signed by the artist.
