This peaceful winter scene has been pained by the famous Fedoskino landscape painter, Tatyana Tipyakova. In this work the artist has masterfully expressed beauty of Russian countryside in winter. The fields and meadows are covered with deep snowdrifts. The icy river reflects a shimmer of the evening sky. The wooden peasant houses look so cozy and warm.
The palette is filled with blue tones suitable for depiction of a winter scene. Gold powder is used to create a sparkle of the icy river and to highlight some of the plants and trees.
The scene is framed with a gold line. The box's sides are adorned with two parallel gold lines.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. Black lacquer is used to paint the exterior of the box while red lacquer completes the interior of the work. The lid is hinged from the top of the scene, and the box rests on legs. The work is signed with the artist's name, the title (“The Snow-Covered Village”) and the year of 2006.
