Looking at this gorgeous box, you will immediately recognize a master hand of Sergey Rogatov who is known as one of the best modern Fedoskino artists. His unique boxes are displayed almost in every catalogue on the Russian lacquer art. He is a member of the Artist Union of USSR, and a participant of various exhibitions in Russia and abroad. The box shows a peaceful autumn landscape. The trees are covered with bright red, yellow, orange and crimson leaves. The brightness of the palette is strengthened by silver powder that is used as an underlayer for the depicted scene. A large piece of mother-of-pearl is set into the center of the composition where the lake and the trees are depicted. The splendor of Russian countryside with its wooden peasant houses and cathedrals and vast expanses of forests and fields is sensitively expressed here.
The scene is outlined with gold. The box's sides are decorated with Rogatov's style signature gold ornaments that consist of an innumerable number of scrolls.
The box is constructed out of paper-mache. Black lacquer covers the exterior and red lacquer covers the interior of the box. The box has a hinge above the scene, and rests on four legs. The work is signed with the artist's name, the title (“Autumn Landscape”) and the year of 2009.
