This festive box has been painted by the talented Fedoskino artist, K. Kolmogorov. The work is called “A Magic Night” and shows happy people wearing fancy dresses who are the participants of a Masquerade ball at the Carnival of Venice.
The scene is painted in bright oil paints to create a festal mood. Shining pieces of gold metal leaf that can be found in the costumes of the characters and some of the plant are used to strengthen the festive and miraculous atmosphere of the carnival.
At the top of the composition we can see the golden arch decorated with maple leaves. The edges of the lid are adorned with a wide gold band that is extended on the box's sides.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. Black lacquer is used to paint the exterior of the box while red lacquer completes the interior of the work. A hinge is fastened to the left of the scene, and the box rests on a flat bottom. The work is signed with the artist's name, the title, and the village of Fedoskino on the box's exterior bottom.
