Description:

This charming box has been painted by well-known artist Victor Tretyakov from the village of Fedoskino. The Russian aristocrats of the eighteenth century have gathered in the park to amuse themselves. The eighteenth century is known as the Age of Enlightenment, and a kind of their amusement corresponds to the fashion of that epoch. Some of the ladies and gentlemen depicted here look through the telescope, the others contemplate the globe or talk discussing the recent scientific inventions.
The front and the back of the sides of the box are decorated with very complicated design- so called "scan patterns" composed of tiny shapes hand punched from silver metal sheets and then painstakingly affixed by hand to the box! The rest of the box's exterior is decorated with scotish crossed parallel white lines.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. Black lacquer is used to paint the exterior of the box while red lacquer completes the interior of the piece. The lid is hinged from the top of the scene, and the box rests on a flat bottom. The interior also includes the Fedoskino Factory "troika" insignia stamped in red paint on the roof of the lid.
The work is signed with the artist's name and the village of Fedoskino.
Highly recommended piece!
