This charming box has been painted by famous artisy Marina Rogatova from the village of Fedoskino. It shows all kinds of winter outdoor fun in countryside. We can see children sledging down the hill, playing snowballs, the older mamas and papas are just enjoying fresh air--they are walking in the snow paths holding each other in hands... On the second plan of the composition we can see several figures that are skates on the frosted river! All these kinds of winter amusements are very popular in Russia.
For this composition Rogatova has chosen two main colors - blue and silver that are the most suitable for depiction of a winter scene.
The composition is framed with a rich gold ornamentation which also scattered the box's sides and a part of the bottom.
The box is made out of paper-mache. Lifgt blue lacquer covers the exterior and dark red lacquer covers the interior of the box. The lid is hinged from the top of the composition, and the box rests on a flat bottom. The box is signed with the name of the artist inside the box.
