This interesting box is a creation of Svetlana Komogorova. In this work the artist has painted an allegorical depiction of a comet. She imagines the comet as a romantic, young, winged girl sitting on the flourishing meadow and looking at the infinite space.
The composition is painted in bright oils. The ray around the girl shines brightly being painted over gold metal leaf. Silver metal leaf shines through the designs of the girl's costume and also through some of the plants and flowers painted under her feet. Gold metal paint is used to depict the comet in the foreground and also to decorate the box's exterior with lustrous, wide bands running along the box's sides. In the corners of the box's body these gold bands are completed with intricate filigree painted in black oils.
The box is constructed out of paper-mache. Black lacquer covers the exterior and red lacquer covers the interior of the box. The box has a hinge from the left of the scene, and rests on four legs. The work is signed with the artist's name, Fedoskino and the title of the work ("A Comet").
