Description: This interesting work is created by Yevgeniya Nechaeva from the village of Fedoskino.
Painting in the unusual style, this work extends the frontiers of the traditional Fedoskino style. The artist shows her fresh view on art. Operating with only two tones of oils, white and blue, the artist has managed to create a special, fantastic atmosphere of the tale. The viewer's attention is focused on the huge figure of old Uncle Chernomor rising from the raging Sea. All thirty-three knights follow him ready to defend day and night Gvidon's magic island. Chernomor's costume is beautifully painted and detailed with gold paint. He wears the swan shaped helmet that creates a special atmosphere of the tale. Brilliant gold paint can be also found decorating architecture, ships, the costumes of thirty-three knights and the wings of the big fly painted in the left upper corner of the composition.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. Black lacquer is used to paint the exterior of the box while red lacquer completes the interior of the work. The whole surface of the exterior is decorated with so called "scan patterns" composed of tiny shapes hand punched from silver metal sheets and then painstakingly affixed by hand to the box. The silver shapes arrange together very complex and beautiful designs. The lid is hinged from the left of the composition, and the box rests on a flat bottom. The work is signed with the artist's name, and the title ("The Tale of Tsar Saltan").
