Description:

The famous Fedoskino artist, Galina Dubovikova, is the author of this sumptuous box. On the limited space of the lacquered box the artist has painted her interpretation of the oil on canvas painting originally painted in the 1889 by Konstantin Makovsky. Named "Demon and Tamara", this masterpiece is kept in the Art and Historical Museum situated in the town of Serpukhov, Russia .
"Demon and Tamara" is a poem written by the Great Russian writer, Mikhail Lermontov, in 1831. This poem tells about the demon who managed to tempt the nun, Tamara. In the end of this tragic story Tamara dies and the Angel mourns over her soul.
The composition is painted very close to the original using oil paints. Dubovikova has managed to express here limitless passion of the Demon and innocence of Tamara.
The composition is framed with a gold line; two parallel gold lines decorate the box's sides.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. Black lacquer is used to paint the exterior of the box while red lacquer completes the interior of the work. The lid is hinged from the left of the composition, and the box rests on four legs. The work is signed with the artist's name.
