Description: This uncommonly shaped box has been created by Nikolay Demiyanenkov from the village of Fedoskino. The piece is made of papier mache, and repeats the shape of a kitchen utensil that looks likes a hinged container for keeping some food inside. On the front side of the piece the artist has painted a humorous scene. An old man has been awakened by a strange sound in the darkness of a night. Coming out of the house, he illuminates the garden with his lamp and holds firmly the rifle, ready to shoot at an enemy. Next to him, behind the bush we can see the noisemaker. It is the cat that has stolen several sausages in the kitchen. The scene is painted in dark tones of oils suitable for depiction of a night scene. The cat and the sausages are crafted three dimensionally.
The piece's exterior imitates brown marble (gold blurry spots are scattered against the black lacquered covering). The exterior is decorated with simple gold ornaments. The interior is traditionally covered with red lacquer. The lid is hinged at the top of the piece. The work is signed with the artist's name on the lid's interior.
