Dmitry Bebikhov from the village of Fedoskino is the author of this radiant autumn landscape. The work is called “The Rural landscape with a Heron”. The work reflects the artist's admiration for a quiet splendor of Russian countryside with its ramshackle, wooden peasant houses and rich, wild vegetation.
The palette used by the artist is a reflection for the time of year depicted here. Yellow, orange, brown and green tones make up the majority of the colors to convey the idea of autumn. Gold metal leaf inlay help to produce a sparkle of the sunset and its reflection on the water of a small pond. The landscape is brilliantly painted, and has a calming effect on the soul.
The outer edge of the lid is painted with a fine band of gold paint. The base of the box has two lines done in gold painted parallel to each other, the bottom line slightly thicker than the other.
The box is originally designed and constructed from paper-mache. Black lacquer is used to paint the exterior of the box while red lacquer completes the interior of the work. The lid is hinged from the top of the composition, and the box rests on legs. The work is signed with the artist's name, Fedoskino, the year of 2009 and the title.
