Description: This wonderful piece of exquisite Russian artistry was composed by the talented Sergey Knyazev. The box continues the artist's series of works dedicated to old Russian towns, and shows a picturesque view of the town of Suzdal.
Suzdal being one of the oldest Russian towns is an important tourist center nowadays. It features many fine examples of old Russian architecture , most of them churches and monasteries.
The scene is painted in the recognizable Knyazev's style. Large pieces of mother-of-pearl that have bright greenish, pink, lilac, blue and yellow undertones decorate the composition amazingly. Mother-of-pearl creates a sparkle of the water, the sky, the moon and also shines through the architecture. Some areas of the composition as the sky, the grass and the water are painted over silver powder. Gold paint is used to detail the plants and the trees.
The scene is framed with a golden ornament. The box's exterior is covered with blue lacquer, and the interior is traditionally red. The sides of the base of the box are covered with very rich flower ornament.
The box is constructed from quality paper-mache. The lid is hinged from the left of the scene, and the box rests on a flat base. The work is signed, dated (2010) and titled ("Suzdal") by the artist in gold paints on the lid's interior.
