Olga Borisova, the artist from the village of Fedoskino, painted this beautiful portrait of a European peasant woman. Borisova paints many different themes, but her favorite is portraits. It's easy to see why, because she has a great talent in creating realistic textures, shading, and tone.
The box's lid glows radiantly been inlaid with pieces of mother-of-pearl of different shape and color. The portrait of the peasant woman is painted on the oval, white piece of mother-of-pearl. The portrait is painted in oils and detailed with gold paint. Gold metal band is used to frame the portrait. The rest part of the lid's exterior is inlaid with pieces of white and blue mother-of-pearl that form together a single pattern. Outlined with gold paint, this pattern shines with a variety of undertones raging from dark green to bright green and pink.
Intricate and very beautiful gold metal engraving wraps around the box's sides as a unique decoration. Pieces of mother-of-pear shine through this engraving been inlaid around the box's sides. The interior edges of the box's base are also inlaid with mother-of-pearl.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. Both the box's exterior and interior are covered with cream lacquer, except the box's interior bottom covered with cream velvety material. A hinge is fastened to the top of the portrait. The box can be locked by means of a gold metal needle. The box rests on four small rounded gold metal legs. The work is signed with the artist's name.
