This beautifully ornamented box is a creation of Yuriy Butsinskaya from the village of Fedoskino. The work is called "The Beauty of Forest", and shows the beautiful Russian maiden standing in the forest accompanied by the deer.
The scene is painted in dark tones of oils. Darkness of the palette is enlivened by brilliant pieces of mother-of-pearl set into the river and into the girl's costume. The box's lid is decorated with elegant patterns painted in silver paint and accented with light blue oil paint. The box's exterior bottom and the space of the lid that is free from painting are hued with gold powder.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. Black lacquer is used to paint the exterior of the box while red lacquer completes the interior of the work. The lid is hinged from the left of the scene, and the box rests on a flat bottom. The work is signed with the artist's name, the title, Fedoskino and the year of 2008.
