Description: This stunning composition is an original master work of the famous Fedoskino artist Sergey Knyazev. Here the artist has tried to express a humble beauty of the Russian countryside. He has done it by painting a ramshackle wooden bridge thrown across a small river, cozy peasant houses, golden domed churches and an incomparable charm of the Russian nature.
The box demonstrates Knyazev's impeccable painting style. The palette is filled with dark tones of oils to reproduce the idea of an evening. Mother-of-pearl and silver powder that highlights plants and architecture give the composition a three-dimensional look. The composition is framed with a gold line while the box's sides are adorned with small branches of a tree painted in gold. On the box's reverse side the artist has written in gold the fragment from the poem written by the great Russian poet, Fedor Tyutchev, that can be translated into English as following:
"People! You can't imagine what nature is!
Nature has a soul and freedom,
Nature embodies love
and has its own language!"
The box is constructed from paper-mache. Black lacquer mixed with gold powder is used to paint the exterior of the box while red lacquer completes the interior of the work. The lid is hinged from the left of the composition, and the box rests on a flat bottom. The work is signed with the artist's name, Fedoskino, the title ("A Quiet River") and the year of 2010 on the lid's interior.
