This portrait of an upper class lady is a splendid specimen of Fedoskino realism. It is a masterful depiction of an oil on canvas painting composed in the later half of the 19th Century. This era was renown for it's classic renditions done in portrait and sculpture form.
The face and body language of the depicted lady show that she is depressed and dispirited. The artist gives particular attention to her face, considering it very important to understand her mood and emotions. Her elegant dress is skillfully painted in exquisite details.
The box is made out of high quality paper-mache. Black lacquer covers the exterior and red lacquer covers the interior of the box. The portrait is framed with a gold line; two gold parallel lines wrap around the box's sides. The lid is hinged from the left of the portrait and the box rests on a flat bottom. The work is signed with the artist's name.
