Description: This alluring box is a creation of Taisiya Danchenko.
The work is called "St.Petersburg", and shows a beautiful young lady wearing a mask. On the background we can see The Palace Square (main square of St.Petersburg)... She wears fashionable masquerade clothes of the nineteenth century. The scene is painted in bright tempera paints. Some elements of the lady's costume shine brightly being painted in gold and aluminum. The scene is framed with a gold wavy line. Some elements of the clothes are three-dimensional. We can see the small glass balls in the flowers of the hat. On the box's reverse side the artist has painted sketches that depict St Isaac Cathedral of St.Petersburg.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. Violet lacquer mixed with gold powder is used to paint the exterior of the piece while red lacquer completes its interior. The lid is hinged from the left of the scene, and the box rests on a flat bottom. The work is signed with the artist's name and the title on the box's reverse side.
