Description: This beautiful view of the Moscow Kremlin has been painted by Vladimir Monashov who specializes in painting the architecture of Moscow. In the foreground he depicts the embankment of Moskva River. The central part of the composition shows the red- bricked Kremlin's wall. From left to right we can see the following towers of the wall: the Vodozvodnaya Tower, the Blagoveshchenskaya Tower, the Tainitskaya Tower, the First Bezymyannaya Tower, the Second Bezymyannaya Tower, the Petrovskaya Tower and the Moskvoretskaya Tower. Behind the Kremlin's wall we can see (from left to right) the Great Kremlin Palace, the Archangel Cathedral, the Belfry of Ivan the Great and the Assumption Bell Tower. In the far background the artist has painted the St. Basil's Cathedral.
The composition is painted in the realistic style using various tones of oils. The palette is enhanced by silver metal powder and mother-of-pearl inlay. Silver metal powder shines through the architecture of the Kremlin's wall, the Moskva River' water, and also is used to highlight the clouds in the sky and the trees. Mother-of-pearl is inlaid in the central part of the composition where the Archangel Cathedral and the Belfry of Ivan the Great are painted.
The composition is framed with a gold line; the box's sides are decorated with two parallel gold lines.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. Black lacquer is used to paint the exterior of the box while red lacquer completes the interior of the work. A hinge is fastened to the top of the composition, and the box rests on a flat bottom. The work is signed with the artist's name, the year of 2009 and the village of Fedoskino.
